Okay, so how to I begin the industrialization of Russia?

Given how backward Russia is, probably the sole way is how it did IRL; wait for Britain to industrialize and pirate their designs like America, France and everyone else did.

I should have mentioned this before (forgot to): Australia has not been discovered. Likewise Hawaii and Antarctica remain undiscovered.

Secondly the interior of Africa is full of nasty stuff (diseases and "fun" creatures) making exploration of the jungle areas next to impossible. Nations can claim all they like, but can they enforce it?

Also, there is no industrial revolution as of yet.

Yeah, sort of adding on to what Luft said, the whole "X claims more land in Africa" should stop IMO.

Why? Because for reasons Luft detailed, nations didn't get serious about African colonization until the late 1800s because of disease, climates, and they were busy elsewhere. Plus none of you have the human or military resources to enforce your claim. I understand that you all want your nations to be on top, but the true fun of RPing comes from interpreting info and making decisions through the eyes of your character (country, in this case.) Africa is extremely rich in things like oil, gold, diamonds and silver, but as before, most of that is undiscovered. It feels to me like there's a lot of metagaming going on to set you guys up for oil-fired engines. Maybe that's not going on here, but I'm just calling it how I see it, though I could be wrong, and I'd like to caution you guys not to do that because it can spoil the game a bit.
