all right everyone, I'm not sure how well this will go over (for me at least) but I am choosing Portugal, if I made a mistake in this choice and didn't read something because of extreme chronic laziness than I apologize and will choose again hopefully more wisely.

Not necessarily. During this time-period alliances were not always open and sometimes secret. However, you could choose to be allies with Portugal or you could choose to treat them as yet another nation.

Out of curiosity, were the lands in Mexico relinquished to the Aztec rebels or to Britain?

To the rebels (because of the British treaty), but some parts of southern Mexico were not relinquished (Can be negotiated for).
