(Jeffrey, come now, would oregon try to become its own nation? I think not. France doesn't have any will or authority to become independent. While you ponder that, as well as how badly it would mess you up if, say, China or Ukraine were to petition to withdraw from the ICC, and how poorly germany went, I'll pretend that your ridiculous proclamation stands. P.S. now, I'm whining, but I'm doing it in a smug, self-centered, condescending way, so most people would say I was talking down to you.)

Brazil sits down with the french leaders, flatly denies their proposal, but in a diplomatic way. Brazil arrests those radical leaders who are the least charismatic on charges of treason, provides "armed protection" to charismatic rebels, meets with the moderate rebels and quickly gives into some none-threatening demands. Emperor de Silva concludes the week's events by touring the historic french countryside, and allowing American troops in Britain to "Visit the historical gravesites from WWI and II in eastern france" with full armament, in case of communist attack. The troops are, however, asked to remain professional, unless that attack should come. The number of American troops and equipment is also restricted unless war with the ICC breaks out.

The French independence movement refuses to accept this. They continue to press for full independence and now also for the release of captive rebels. A few more hot-blooded patriots meet with the Americans and Russians to try and secure support. A driving force in the independence movement is the now-defunct [as I assume that France doesn't have its own party system] French Communist Party. This news almost immediately secures support from the Russians and to a lesser extent the Germans.

Through back door deals and under the Brazillian radar, the Americans promise support only if the Fance agrees to democratically their leaders, and put in place a system of peaceful transition of power from party to party.

(The more hot-blooded REBELS were arrested, or placed under gov't protection. France can have any parties that it wants as a state, so long as they work within the democratic part of the empire. )

The French PATRIOTS make loud declarations of how France was occupied before Brazil liberated them. They cite economic growth, a lack of world influence, and continued liberty in united partnership with Brazil as being key to French interests.

(Make no mistake, the French place in the Brazilian Empire is more beneficial to France than Brazil, except culturally.)

It is discovered that 80% of the "Independence movement" was backed by KGB spies, who fled the country without capture. Leaders recant their earlier statements, saying that the ICC, (or rogue elements therein, if you wish) was threatening their families. It is discovered from these former leaders that the Americans attempted to negotiate with the rebels, and Emperor de Silva, while outraged, agrees not to inform the world that the U.S. tried to negotiate with communist terrorists, so long as the U.S. does not try such again. France returns to peace, as Brazil releases its captives happily, and Brazil goes about trying to secure some reparations from Russia, without much success, or hope thereof.

[Rolling the dice only lets you find out stuff that ACTUALLY HAPPENED/shoot down nuclear missiles. This incident is entirely self-sustained, without KGB influence, or I would have said that there were KGB agents agitating France (as I did in Germany).]

Russia ignores Brazil's demands as per expectations.

French Communists meanwhile begin loudly demanding independence [regardless of benefit. America had ridiculous benefits under British rule; in fact they had it better off than Britain did. Yet they wanted independence, based on principle] regardless of how they go about getting it. France's history of violent revolution comes to mind.

The US ignores Brazil's rant, seeing as how the "drastic actions" proposed by the Brazilians would only result in it's own destruction.

Post by President WIN Thu Nov 17, 2011 8:24 pm

(You are grossly misinformed if you think America was better off under British rule. It was the principals of economics, not the principals of democracy, that led to American Independence. Democracy was the chosen form of gov't because it was a popular new-ish idea at the time, which dove-tailed nicely with economic freedom. The Americans had it better because they had more natural resources, more peace, and ultimately less rule by the British than the British subjects did. America decided that they ought to keep it that way.

France on the other hand, is stable, and the amount of government/freedom has not drastically changed. There are clear military benefits to staying with Brazil, because it is a world power, not just a bunch of indians, on the opposite border. And Brazil now has complete control of French Nukes, so a pull out of all Brazilian military would be VERY bad for French importance on the national stage.

Say Nebraska wanted communism. Would Nebraska rather implement communism on a state level, and have the federal government's hands completely tied, or launch a revolt, then become communist, just inviting the federal gov't to kick their asses and bring them back into the union? Hmm?)

Brazil denies it threatened drastic action. In fact it did not. It only offered to make it public that America almost negotiated with communist terrorists who were posing as an actual rebellion.

(Jeffrey, if there was no real KGB influence, which in this world I doubt, then the entire thing is a very convincing bluff by the Brazilian gov't which was quite successful as you can see by the roll of 16/20)

Any French Communists who continue to advocate a rebellion, which would screw France, rather than working with a very amiable Brazilian Gov't are booed out of meetings by angry French mobs and mocked on public TV. The French People are most decidedly with Brazil, and throw several Parades in conjunction with the Brazilian Gov't to show it. The French parliament begins debating the merits of communism, to the applause of Emperor de Silva, who comments that this is a step toward peace and reconcilliation.

(The sad truth is, Jeffrey, people won't revolt if you give them everything they want. Independence is not a principal unto itself; it is a measure taken when the fear of oppresion is overcome by the benefits of self-government. Self government used loosely here.)

[The roll has no bearing whatever on what happens to the revolt, actually. As for the rest of the post I'm too disinterested to butt heads with you.]

The French Communists continue to gain support on their platform for Independence or Death! This in mind, they declare themselves abruptly independent and demand that Brazil leave their territory. Beings as they are Communist, they obtain support from the Soviet Union and DDR, both of which guarantee France's borders and newly-obtained sovereignty should Brazil respond to this with military force. Sensing a potential World War in the making, Sarov mobilizes the might of the ICC and raises the alert level on all military units in the general area to a high level.

France (no official name as yet) has begun replacing nuclear arms that Brazil took from them. Germany announces that it has developed nuclear weapons (they don't add that they're essentially carbon copies of Russian missiles) as well. The whole of the Communist bloc stands ready for a confrontation with Brazil, should de Silva have the shortsightedness to not cut his losses and pull the heck out.

[Your move.]

The US pulls it's division and regiment out of France. Space lasers armed and armed forces prepped for war, the US suggests a summit in NYC to discuss the French issue in a neutral country. The armed forces of the US stands ready to defend US interests in the event of an attack by any country.

[Of course I'm rigging it, but I'm doing it by legitimate means. I didn't arbitrarily start with half the planet under my control. I expanded Soviet influence until the ICC reached its current level of influence. It's your fault if America can't catch up.]

The French Communists begin setting up their own Communist government. After all, they are the most popular and powerful group in France at the moment. Ties with the DDR and USSR are forged as France begins getting back onto the world stage, determined to make up for lost time.

India's repopulation is going well. Indian nationals from Pakistan, China, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are settling in (after a more or less forced immigration by China) and the Indian government submits a request to Brazil to return the section of Indian land they currently possess.

[Aside from the fact that that post is stupid in and of itself? Granted I probably shouldn't have let Brazil do that but it's a little late now. *Ignores the post, not needing to void obvious satire*]

French Communist government is slowly coming online (most of the aid is going to India rather than France).

[And at any rate, I've been more than accomadating. I've kept Sarov in office the entire time (except when he died and then wasn't dead (SAROV IS JESUS :lol!: )) rather than replacing him with a Stalin-esque dictator primarily because I've been waiting for the West to get its collective ass in gear for a fight. But hey, it'll make for a good underdog-always-wins story.]

The French Nationalists, mentioned in the post you ignored, execute the French Communists, and request the U.S. troops return, as Brazil is obviously too peaceful, (really wanted to say something dirty here, but refrained) to launch a significant counter-strike against the Soviets, who are underhandedly sabotaging the country.

(sorry, forgot about using PM to resolve disputes, I'll resend the post to you if you want, Jeffrey, considering that I explained a lot, reasonably, but especially because if you're in APUSH and you believe the bullshit about America being better under the British that you're spouting, I REALLY want to talk to you.)

The US sends this note to Brazil: America really has no intrest in France, so to save American lives, we are keeping out of France unless the Soviets agree to allow the 3rd regiment to continue honoring the fallen in the fields of France.

[the 3rd reg is also known as the old guard. They are the troops guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the troops that accompany the pres, etc.]

Brazil sends this note to America:

What are you talking about? We didn't say anything about you coming back. Also, we believe your interest in France was something about keeping Communists out, no? However we will back you up if you wish to send forces to France.

The French People send this note to America:

Get your asses back here! Brazil sucks at defending against communists!

(Brazil will roll d20 to find out whether or not it intercepts the message and is offended (or Galvanized, depending on what you how you want to spin it.))

The Communists retaliate with strikes of their own, launching a civil war. The French Communists allow for the continued presence of American troops in the requested areas, while they negotiate with Russia and Germany for support against the nationalists. The Communists being in control of the country's media, propaganda campaigns are launched that blame the Nationalists for starting the war (which is true, actually.)
