The British successfully complete their biggest project to date. Fast little airships are seen buzzing around the English countryside.

[yes, i just developed the airplane.]

The other major NPC countries take note and work to develop their own planes. The United States and Confederate States have pretty much recovered since the War Between the States erupted 30 years ago.

The British keep the planes from foreign eyes. They are stored at secret bases in the English countryside. Security is strengthened at the science labs, then suddenly drops back to normal levels. Trade with Canada increases dramatically.

[bull shit an 18. It's the most highly guarded thing in England. At minimum it would take a 20. And, only a piece of the plane would be successfully taken. The specs are divided in 5 pieces, with numerous fakes spread around as well. Only 4 people now the entire schems by memory, and only 1 that knows where the specs are. They are all die-hard British loyalists with a burning hatred of foreigners. A 20 will get you one piece.]

[Realistically, Ian, you should already have been doing that if you're making airships.]

The USA (which still pretty much hates Britain for its role in the War Between the States) is now working on its own air force of airships and (upon finding out about the planes) aeroplanes. The CSA follows suit.

Russia and Austria-Hungary are now angry at each other over treatment of Slavic people (and threats directed at nearby Serbia).

The British publish what looks like schematics to their airplanes. As it is, they are false, designed to lead foreign countries astray. They contain no helpful designs and only serve to distract the foreign scientists. (everyone rolls. A 15 or higher means you lose no time in developing airplanes. Anything below, and you lose 6-12 months, depending on the roll)

[That roll would be more like 50/50, considering the other countries aren't stupid. It'd be less except the British are the only ones with the tech, so yeah. And I really don't want to roll for EVERYTHING I control.]

The Confederate States secure an agreement with Nicaragua to begin construction of a canal. The USA demands that it be allowed full use of the canal, and the CSA refuses them the right to move warships through it. This really pisses off the US. The CSA contacts Britain, wanting to know if they could secure a defensive alliance. France has agreed to this, mostly because they don't want to deal with the US, which is pissed at them for intervening in the War Between the States and figure the CSA can keep the Yankees busy.

Russia and Austria aren't backing down. Tsar Katryn dies and is replaced by Tsar Michael, who (in a usual display of idiocy for the Russian gov't) severs diplomatic relations with the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the German Reich and partially mobilizes the Russian Army.

The British agree on these terms

1. Free passage for all ships under British colors
2. A favorable trade agreement towards Britain
3. The CSA helps pay for any defensive measures taken by Britain on the CSA's behalf
4. If Briain is attacked, the CSA must assist the British nation, and vice-versa.
5. An agreement to allow unarmed merchant ships from the US passage through the canal without unlawful seizing of property.

Britain's prize, the airplane, is upgraded in secret.

[If I wanted to tell a story I would write a book, Trey. The issues between the USA/CSA and Austria-Hungary/Russia are not going to be WWI, as the extensive network of alliances does not exist. (At any rate it's around 1891, not 1914.) France and (to my knowledge) Britain do not back Russia, so if that goes to war it won't involve them, for one, and the USA stands on its own against the CSA, France and Britain. Ian and Alex control two of the nations that influence the RP the most. If the DMing style is too far different from Imperialism for your liking, that is because I have control of multiple independently-acting entities rather than the NPC countries more or less united under the banner of the International Communist Coalition. Wars fought between NPCs are only natural, and if Britain and Germany want to get involved, that's their choice. Now, if you please, either rejoin the thread or stop nitpicking over every little thing that you don't fancy.]

The CSA agrees to Britain's terms, intending to slide around the bit about payments if they can. The Canal goes on, the United States having become hesitant at learning that Britain and France stand against it.

Austria-Hungary mobilizes its military all the way, resulting in a Russian declaration of war. Initial fighting favors the Austro-Hungarians, with them advancing into Serbia withe the advantage of having airships while the Russians do not.

The British wonder why the Russians declared war, while asking their neighbors, the French, what they intend to do about it. Work on the British armed forces rises above wartime levels.

France says evasively they plan to do nothing. In reality, they are secretly shipping the Russians modern artillery, which is capable of firing at airships.

The Austro-Hungarian conquest of Serbia is completed, and the Russians are halted on the borders by airships and a fierce counterattack by the Austrians.

Construction in Nicaragua is going well. The USA's warships are shadowing it closely, staying well out of range of Nicaraguan land-based guns but at the same time within range to fire their own weapons.

Japan takes advantage of Russia's distraction to seize control of Manchuria, resulting in a Russian declaration of war against Japan. Nothing really happens, though, with the majority of the Russian Army tied down against Austria and Germany.

Argentina seeks trade agreements with Britain.

Britian agrees, while sending a detachment of Royal Navy ships to the construction site, officially bringing "men and supplies" to the build site. They are escorted by a strange looking ship with a flat deck, with it's guns begin mounted on the side of the ship, rather then the now standard centerline turret mounts. The British ear of diplomacy remains open to any country seeking an economical trade agreement. As such, the British offer trade with the Japanese. Further amends are put towards "mending fences" with the US by Britain offering a completely free trade agreement between the two countries as a sign of good will and a more peace filled future between the two countries.

Japan accepts the trade agreements. The Austro-Russian War has stalled along the front, with breakthroughs made difficult by new Russian artillery. A few pieces are captured by Austria and examined, with one example being sent to Germany for further examination.

The USA also accepts the trade agreements with Britain, though most of them still remember the stab in the back from the War Between the States and hate Britain for it.

The Germans make Moderate Progress. Solidifying that the Russians did not make the rounds themselves, but some other country did. The germans also make duplicate rounds and begin testing to figure out flaws with the rounds. They ask Austria to try to capture the actual machine which fires it, so they can do even more research.
