Timebreak

Post by Flagmauth on Sat Dec 24, 2011 12:46 am

1864...

The Confederate States of America have gained diplomatic recognition from Great Britain and the Republic of France. They take with them, in addition to their existing territory, West Virginia (retaken as part of Virginia) and Kentucky. Washington D.C. has been razed to the ground, President Lincoln killed in the fighting. The American capital has moved to Philadelphia indefinitely. The Empire of Mexico sells states Sonora and Chihuahua to the CSA, and they declare the Indian territory to be the state of Sequoyah, in accordance with the tribes' requests.

In this new timeline, you take the helm of a country and guide it to greatness...or ruin.

Once again I am DM, and in charge of technological developments (more or less) to keep things flowing at a realistic pace.

The USA starts a war with Canada and Britain over an incident on the Great Lakes.

The CSA begins working on issues with black uprisings, leading to polarization of people with differing views on the treatment of dissenting blacks and the formation of the first Confederate political parties.

(Not going so well Jeff? Oh well, you're getting the ball rolling in Arkanian High Destiny, so I'll get the ball rolling here.)

I'll play the Union, because its objectives are the clearest and easiest to achieve. If anybody else wants the Union, I can give it up to them.

(What is the status of the generals and the whole Anaconda War effort right now?)

[Merci beaucoup. The war's over, because the Confederates got lucky once or twice and their generals figured out to fight defensively. The blockade was smashed by the Royal Navy's ironclads. All the generals on both sides are still there, and it's virtually a guarantee that PRes. Lincoln's not getting reelected this year.]

(How did they manage fighting a defensive war, and advancing north against all odds to raze Washington and kill Lincoln?

And how are the common British people, especially the common soldier (sorry, sailors) reacting to being on the side of the slave holding Confederacy?

And did the efforts to grow cotton in the British colonies utterly fail, or what? And specifically which battle went to the Confederacy first? (After that, I assume the battles they fought and won would deviate from the standard historical battles.)

Sorry for all the questions, but I like having a firm footing when starting an RP.)

[They fought mostly defensively, then at one point smashed Washington. Lincoln is remembered as a martyr. The British view this as more or less a painful necessity to keep the Americans down so they can be controlled more easily (and the Confederates appeared to be winning), plus they did need the cotton as yes, their attempts to grow some in their colonies failed miserably. Basically the Confederates won a fictional battle of great importance in Virginia, encircling and destroying large elements of the Army of the Potomac before Lee decided to march on Washington. After that the British and French stepped in, deciding the war in the favor of the CSA.]

[Sure. This was spur-of-the-moment, fill in the info as you please.]

The CSA begins developing more of their industry outside Kentucky and Virginia.

Re: Timebreak

Post by President WIN on Tue Dec 27, 2011 6:43 pm

Assuming Grant still won Vicksburg, the Union works to fortify its position on the Mississippi, trying to keep that part of the Anaconda Plan intact. Recognizing that the majority of the CSA's importance to Great Britain is its cotton, President Johnson follows through on Lincoln's plans to launch Gerneral Sherman on a total war with a march to the sea.

Following up on the idea of Lincoln's Martyrhood, Johnson continues to do as he pleases, as the populace is quick to agree with him. He sends diplomats London to convince them that if they want cotton, it would be quicker and easier to buy it from a united, restored union, rather than a war-torn, battle-wracked, shaky Confederacy. The diplomats highight that the Union will not stop its efforts to regain the confederacy, which will keep the cotton supply constantly volatile, until the union is reunited.

Johnson orders the union navy to conduct a truce with the British Navy while the diplomats speak in London. He asks soldiers to try and convince the British sailors, (whom I assume would be mostly commoners) that to support the Confederacy is wholy immoral, and also tells the soldiers to generally party with the sailors when possible building a connection between the two navies, for their country's sakes.

In the meantime, Johnson meets with Frederick Douglass and, although he personally dislikes the man, he knew that Douglass and Lincoln had a rapport, and he knows that Douglass is influential with the Free Blacks and slaves alike. So, he asks Douglass to raise and train an elite battalion of Colored soldiers with the express mission to become a guerilla movement in the south, and in turn train slaves to be insurgents.

The Union mourns Lincoln's death, and Grant is made supreme general of the armies, and is set to retake the Washington ruins, as well as to generally assault the confederacy.

[ill take GB]

The diplomats bog down the Unionist, while debating the truce with the Union navy. Orders are given to not allow Union naval vessels into British ports.

The truce is specifically and especially extended to Royal Navy ships already in American waters, though the whole Royal Navy is invited to join.

The Confederates, sensing the damnyankees aren't going to hold their truce, protest loudly. France, using their puppet state in Mexico, prepares to reinforce them with a hefty ground troop presence. They warn that an attack on the CSA will prompt war with the Republic of France as well, something the USA can hardly afford with the fight with Britain still going (remember, they're fighting a land war in Canada, though either of you can end that).

[Essentially the same, except the Confederate plus WV and Kentucky left the Union and bought the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua. Also...]

Canada urgently requests help from Britain against the Yankee invaders - serious territorial losses are imminent.

France, in response to continued Yankee aggression (btw, US forces occupy the Niagra peninsula, Newfoundland, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and parts of Labrador), declares war on the United States, attacking the remainder of the blockade with their own ironclads and shelling important port cities such as Boston and New York. The French Army, operating out of Mexico (which is somewhat under France's thumb, less so if Dave can maneuver rightly) assists the Confederate armies, attacking Sherman's flanks while the CSA viciously counterattacks.

I will take part of a rebel group in the heart of the CSA. Suddenly a small arms locker in mississippi is raided. Several muskets are stolen along with ammo and gunpowder. Reports also say a cannon is missing. They Flee to their hidden hideout deep within the vast jungles of the south.

(You said there was a war started over a great lakes incident before I started playing, and I forgot to corrrect that, but you didn't say where troops were before I joined, so I call foul.)

Because of puppeteering, there were never any Union forces in Canada, and President Johnson didn't authorize any border fighting. He states that if the Britain insists on attacking the God blessed U.S.A. under a flag of truce, over a minor border incident that men were disciplined for, then God, as well the Union, will doubtless strike them with holy wrath.

Johnson, deciding that his ambassadors are failing horribly at clearing things up, decides to make a diplomatic voyage to London himself. He focuses on the common people in any public remarks, and makes a few passionate speeches on arrival if the government will let him, but otherwise meets immediately with the prime minister, and says the following:

He re-emphasizes that it is the interest of the U.K. to support the Union, because with their victory the cotton will be easy to get, and on favorable, stable terms. Also, he makes a comment, privately to the Prime Minister, more as a joke than anything, that if border disputes were to become a serious problem, the U.K. could trade Canada for Mexico, which the U.S. would be happy to turn over to Great Britain in violation of the Monroe Doctrine, if they would help the Union win the war.

He laughs at his joke, but then mentions darkly that France is already trying to outdo Great Britain by using Mexico as a puppet state.

(I'll detail how I deal with France as soon as we clear up the Great Britain issue, as well as who has control of where Union troops go. Me or you, master marrionetteer.)

A second raid occurs. Hundreds of Slaves Up rise violently in Florida. A large portion of the population is forced out and more slaves start to join the cause. They are heavily armed and were using several cannons stolen from garrisons in the state.

The Slaves after Pretty much taking over the state of florida Declare themselves independent. The Slaves all around the CSA hear this and begin to plot for their vengeance.

A special envoy is sent to France to discuss the current world political map. Meanwhile, the troops occupying the Northern states of the US push further South, capturing Boston with losses. The British then send in reinforcements to their forces in Boston via the sea. The convoys are heavily guarded and any US attack would result in huge US casualties.

[So Ian, you're playing as rebels against the Rebels? And Trey, I apologize for not detailing American troop positions, but they were there. At any rate they can only be beneficial for you - Britain's strong, but not quite strong enough to crush you out of hand (like Alex is doing) so you would actually hold a good chunk of the territories mentioned. Britain can still assault Boston from the sea, like France did]

The CSA, alarmed, moves a large number of their troops to Florida to put down the rebellion. France covers for them, moving more troops through Mexican and Confederate ports to battle the damnyankees. Confederate troops, under superior leadership (which they are good at) and with superior discipline, experience and equipment, begin to attack into Florida, aiming to recapture and hang every single rebel. Confederate President Davis authorizes the militias to do pretty much anything necessary to keep further uprisings from occurring, blocking almost all access to guns and weaponry for blacks and hanging them at the drop of a hat.
