"Yes however, he got into your head, throwing you off."

The younger magus frowned, realizing the implications of that. "...dammit."

"Do not let the dark side cloud your mind." takeshi says, waving his hand in a jedi like manner.

"What?"

"How much danger?"

"A lot. As in, you could probably be killed at just about any time right about now - especially at night, though."

"...........Are you going to kill me?"

"What? Me? No. I'm here to help you." Kirika said, setting down her chopsticks. "See, you've been picked to compete in something called the Holy Grail War. It's a battle between seven magi, where each summons a Heroic Spirit from myth and legend to fight to the death."

"So I'm in real life League of Legends? So can I have blistcrank?"

"What of what?" She looked briefly confused, then waved it aside. "No, you've already summoned your Servant. That would be Assassin."

Vince looked slightly depressed "Fine I'll take the ninja."

"That's the only one you get. All the other classes were summoned already."

"I guess thats what you get for being late to the party."

"You do get an advantage, though. The Grail War was founded by three powerful mage families: the Einzberns, the Tohsakas, and the Matous. Every single war has a magus from one of those families in it. Since the Matous don't have one for this war, we're offering you the position."

"So do you just go around to anyone in the high school age and up you find and offer them a position in a death match? Because thats the vibe I'm getting."

"No. The Grail picks its own competitors. We just want to make sure you have a fighting chance." It was pretty plain to see that Kirika hadn't exactly thought out this sales pitch terribly well. "I mean, you didn't know magic existed until just last night. The other Masters of the war will rip you apart."

"I was studying physics." Vince countered "I have no clue how to do magic."

Her expression brightened somewhat. "Exactly! If you don't have somebody with you who knows what to do, you're going to get killed on the first night. And, as I said, the Matous need someone to take our slot in the War. It's a win for both of us!"

Vince narrowed his eyes "Hold on a second. If your family has a slot in the war, why aren't you taking it?"

Kirika's expression and tone didn't change, but she broke eye contact. "I'm not a very good magus is all. Not compared to you, at any rate; the Grail picked you instead." She held up her hands - the backs of both were devoid of any red tattoos.

Vince looked at his hand "Fine, If I'm so good at magic, what can I do with it?"

A shrug. "I don't know. That's one of the things we'd have to figure out. Finish your classes and come over to my place - it's on the other side of town, but I'll write down the address for you. We need to make sure you know as much as possible before tonight."

"I'm getting lead to a unknown place by a mysterious girl. If someone asks me to take either a red or blue pill I'm gone."

Kirika tilted her head to one side quizzically. "What do pills have to do with anything?"

"That information has been lost in the matrix."
