Serena, trying to keep John and Eric from hearing, said quietly. "Well, it's alcohol, and John's kind of...kind of a deadbeat, to quote my dad. That's why he didn't get a Pokémon until two years after he came of age."

Antares speaks up, thoroughly flustered by the mess that occurred.

"To answer your question, I wasn't planning on challenging the local league. I'm on vacation...sorta."

Eric thought about this before shrugging.

"That's one way to look at life." Eric said in a laid back tone. He turned to Antares after his comment. "Trying to get a stronger connection with your Pokemon before taking on the league. That isn't to embarrassing."

Serena glanced at Eric, annoyed. Trying to pretend he hadn't spoken, "So where are you from, Antares?"

"I'm from White Forest, an area in Unova," Antares explains, "an underdeveloped area compared to much of the region."

Stretching, he continues, "Very peaceful."

As the group walks through a forested area, they come upon a group of Skiddo walking through the forest. Upon seeing the group, they stop and tense up.

"Just calm down. They are just Skiddo, its the Gogoats you need to watch for." Eric started as he started scanning the area. "They tend to protect their young with tooth and nail."

SKIDDO, the MOUNT POKéMON. Thought to be one of the first POKéMON to live in harmony with humans, it has a placid disposition.

"You'd think this Route would be taken care of a lot better..." Serena muttered, meaning the fact that Route 1 had a number of ledges the group had had to work around and the road was practically invisible in places. She brightened upon seeing the Skiddo. "Alright, wild Pokémon! Kitsune, to battle!" she cried, striking a dramatic pose and releasing her Espurr from its Poké Ball.

Crimson and Eric turn to each other after seeing Serena release her Pokemon.

"You okay with me just tossing you into the battle or do we need a stupid pose?" Eric asked as Crimson shook its head 'no'. "Good, less embarrassing fails to worry about."

Serena heard that and gritted her teeth, but chose to ignore the older Trainer. "Kitsune, use Covet!" The Espurr dashed forward and smacked the lead Skiddo soundly on the muzzle with a paw.

Eric refocused on the fight when the impact was heard.

"Ouch, that has gotta hurt." Eric said with a wince as Crimson shrugged.

"Koro, use aqua jet!" Jonn says.

"I did but nobody even cared. Gogoats are the only Pokemon strong enough to carry a human without using a HM." Eric said as he leans against a tree.
