The Godfathers

Krista shrugged and turned back to the so-called "Admissions Officer." Seemed that at least one person found the joke funny.

Simone was about to answer Krista, when she was rudely interrupted by Odysseus's laughter. She waited for it to die down and calmly answered Krista's question "no, this isn't a joke. You see, gods have roamed this Earth for eons - and occasionally, they meddle where should not. It's part of their nature."

Simone continued with her answer "Malcolm works for the government, tracking down half-gods. He has a gift, allowing him to sense half-gods well before they learn to use their powers. Our program has had huge success tracking down half-gods before they hurt themselves through their lack of control over their powers or..."

Simone cut herself off, decided to skip the "there are monsters" part of her speech "Look, I can't prove that gods exist by bringing one in. It doesn't work like that unfortunately. The only thing I can do is show you the powers I inherited from my father. The rest is up to trust. If you decide to trust me, we'll work on finding out who your godly parent is and learn to control your powers."

"Then you've got the wrong guy." Odysseus said. "My mother had told me that my father was a Greek man."

Krista just folded her arms, looking skeptical. Powers, indeed. If she had powers why hadn't she opened with that? Although there was a nagging in the back of her mind...her dad never had wanted to discuss her mother or the circumstances that led to her departure.

This is getting ridiculous. Cayden thought to himself, not only did it sound completely ridiculous what this woman was saying, but that this whole trick may be some sort of prank they were going to broadcast on tv. He scoffs and was close to walking out the door.

Simone looked at the party and realized that she wasn't getting through. She rolled up her sleeves and took a moment to gather her thoughts "watch."

Simone held her hand over one of the tables, concentrating. At first nothing happened, but then a piece of ice seemed to spread out just above the table. It took a few seconds, as the ice spread out from the point of origin; But the wait was worth it, for on the table stood a precise small scale statue of a dragon out of ice.

Simone stood up, proud of her work "you saw my heritage tonight. You all might have different powers. I am offering you a chance to learn to control them and about whom you inherited them from. I know this is a lot to take in. It was for me too, when I sat where you are sitting today. I was in the same program that you are being offered. So trust me when I say: I want to help you."

"If I am a demigod," Odysseus says, "Then who is my father if he wasn't a Greek man?"

Deep down, though, Odysseus wonders if this is actually true. His mother was always vague about the subject, after all.

Simone thought about it "Perhaps your father was one of the Greek gods. I know quite a lot of people whose father is Zeus for instance."

Malcolm stood up from where he was sitting, rather tired of wasting more time "Alright, I think we've spent enough time on discussing this. You have a choice now - go with Simone and me to unlock your powers or you can leave. Your choice. However I can't guarantee your safety, for there are beings who hunt half-gods."

Simone shot Malcolm a death glare, annoyed that he was too honest "what he means to say is that the Falkenstein scholarship allows you a full education concerning the control and growth of your powers. If you don't want to, you are welcome to leave. Don't worry about monsters; without having used your powers they won't be able to sense you - or at least it's as rare as getting struck by lightning. So who's interested?"

After thinking for a little while, Odysseus just went ahead and said, "Sure. I'll stay."

"Wise choice" Malcolm nodded in approval. He then looked at the other people gathered around the room, waiting for a response.

Raizo now realized he isn't dreaming about an anime premise right now. "I'm not dreaming am I?"

"No, not really. Not unless I am too..." Krista shook her head, feeling like she was in a daze. "I mean...how can I say no to this?"

Raizo mumbles something in Japanese. "Well I can't go back home and tell my dad how I refused a scholarship so... why the hell not. "

Cayden would've immediately ran out the room from this...whatever this is, but for some reason he was intrigued by this that he decided to stay and listen to what she[Simone] had to say.

"Hold on. If we are Demigods as you say." Jaron said skeptically "Where is the proof? All I've heard you say that we are the decedents of ditties, but I've seen nothing to confirm this."

"...ice statue?"

Raizo just points to the statue, not saying a word.

"Use your eyes, Private." Odysseus says.

"We're not in the military."

"I was talking to that one." Odysseus says, pointing to Jaron.

"yes but we're still not in the military."

Odysseus pinches the bridge of his nose. Apparently, this person does not know sarcasm.

"That was my fault I apologize. I was in thought, and hadn't seen the creation. Tends to happen when you're thinking things through. But onto a more pressing matter."

Jaron walked over to Odysseus and placed a hand on his shoulder "You called me Private. And I have to say, I need to rectify that statement."

Before Odysseus could react, Jaron grabbed his arm and threw him over his shoulder, smashing him against the floor.

"Company Grand Officer, or 2nd Lieutenant Jaron. That is my full designation."

Odysseus got up off of the floor, groaning. He had worse beatings from some of his half-siblings.

He turns to Jaron and says, "You think I give a shit about your designation, Private?"
