What is a SAO RP?

People get trapped in a VR MMO where they can't log out and if they die in-game they die IRL.

We're building Jyriel and Drakeslayer in it.

So in other words, we are trapped in our own D&D campaign? Or do we assume their personalities?

The characters are literally ourselves in a video game world. Except there's no magic or archery - it's all melee or thrown weapons. Period.

OK, is there a specific role that still need filling? There are two assassins and a tank from what I gather.

No, we have a tank (Nick), DPS (Mycro), assassin (Corvo), smith/Q (Jonn). We could have a monk.

I have gotten really board in my study hall and I think I found two themes that work for this RP

First I can just imagine all of us singing this before we face a boss or something

this is going to happen i'm going to make jon start making cups so he can grind his exp for us to use while drinking & singing outside the boss gates before we enter, also jon it has been stated that smiths have a very slow start up at the beginning you would barely be able to make a sword so you will have you level up your smithing. paul for states your going to wan't Con. Dex. then Str and maybe a point in int because at first you should probably also dump everything in int so that you can buy the unarmed combat skill because until you do your fists are going to do nothing.
also differences between D&D 4e and SAO
dex is speed for the player and their sword not damage unless it's piercing damage
int is to get skill points witch are used to buy skills of the prerequisite you meet your level in thoughs skills is based on your states, the amount of points your spend on them and your exp. for use that can also level up.
con is you Vitality and HP.
strength is damage for slashing and bludgeoning damage
charisma is used many for prerequisites for skills and selling bartering with NPC's and marcus disguise skills: note the disappearing act will be Dex based
there is no wisdom

skill points are used of skills not for states like Int. Str. Dex Con. or Cha. that being said i believe SAO referred to these points as just State points. just to clarify that their is a difference between the two.
