The Hobbit Roleplay

So this is an idea that I got in my head the other day: a roleplay where we play as characters from the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings.

If anyone has any input about what should or should not be in the roleplay, or any other ideas for it, please comment below.

Tauriel should not be in the roleplay. If she is, it should be to die a Red Shirt's death in the background. Preferably a painful one.

I think this is a good idea but lets not be the characters because every body will want to be someone that is already picked and if you have seen the movies or you read the books then you know what happens I think we should choose a race from like 2 or 3 different Dwarf clans and 2 or 3 Efl houses and then humans and hoddits and MAYBE mages but from there we can join up with the other charecter and start an adventure and go were every the GM and the wind takes us but have an over all goal in mind like to stop a war or somthing and have it based in a world or time where it isnt the same place as the movies.

Hey how do you start new pages like this anyway because I was thinking the same thing about The Lord of the rings but I didn't know how to start one.

I won't be in this RP guys, don't like the movies of the Hobbit as well as The Lord Of The Rings movies and don't want all that restriction.

It seems like a neat idea, but like Gaara said, I believe we should create our own characters, as there may be multiple people wanting to be a certain character. It would be also interesting if there was a alternate storyline that tied in with the main storyline (For example helping Bilbo out on his journey or helping to fight off a Orc horde tracking Bilbo)

I actually side with Gaara and Frenchie on the issue of characters, but in my case it's a little different. I don't believe we'd have much of an issue with people fighting over individual characters, to be honest; pretty much everyone here knows each other and is mature enough to work things out without resorting to hissy fits.

However, that said, the Hobbit storyline isn't something we should be tampering with, unlike the Phantom Menace. It's straightforward, twelve or so of the characters are essentially clones of each other, and all in all there's just so much more we could do with it if we didn't restrict ourselves to where Tolkien's already gone with the story and the characters.

Just for the record, who would be the GM? (Or who is planning on being the GM?) I'd be quite happy to join and possibly help with lore.

Sirius is; he started the topic here. Though he seems to be not posting very often, that'd be the issue.

Also, with a LOTR role-play it could get... boring? (I think boring would be the word) Mainly because the player may know how it ends. I think it would be very cool to make characters that help out with the storyline, but also have their own motivation and side storyline- so we don't have to stick to a certain character with his personality, We could chose our own. Either way, it would be a interesting RP.

I'm not going to even test my luck with this RP. I'm used to building my own character and adapting to his set skills. And those who dare try saying its just the same as this type of RP, then I will pull out the 'I HATE THE HOBBIT/LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY!' card and eject myself from the RP. I will read it but not partake in it.

Dude, seriously, back the hell down. First off, my calling you a heretic was not serious at all; I would have hoped that the capslock would have given it away, since I literally never use that except to emphasize single words when I'm too lazy to italicize and to give the impression that I'm screaming nonsense at the top of my lungs. I.e., not serious in the slightest.

Secondly, I'm sort of needling the fact that you feel it necessary to post in the thread that "I hate the Hobbit/LotR," then act upset when I take issue with that in what was intended to be a humorous manner. Plenty of other ways to deal with that as opposed to actually threatening me; nobody else I give a hard time about not playing Minecraft or watching Firefly feels the need to do that.

Finally, don't you EVER threaten anyone on this forum with physical violence again or I'll ban you so hard you will feel it in real life. That is extremely uncalled for and absolutely unacceptable.

By the way, my post earlier meant that we make our own characters, not take the preset characters.

I think these are all wonderful ideas. I agree with making our own characters, so we could get the playing characters from the books/films out of the way. However, I still think that this RP should be a sandbox RP, where everyone is the GM.

In place of one designated GM, everyone can run their own little side-plots. It's a bit messy but if run right it works just fine.
