The Note Board Empty The Note Board

This forum shall be like a note board for moderators and Admins. If there is an issue, or a problem, or you want to chat but no one is on, post a note here.

Please Post things one issue at a time. That way, when an issue is resolved, the posts relating to that issue can be deleted. All issues still here should be current.

Issue #1. Unnecessary Threads/ Comments.

I see threads popping up for absolutely everything. Jeffrey assured me at lunch that the dead threads had been removed, but that doesn't help the problem if new short-lived/one-use threads keep popping up. Not to mention the miscellaneous comments in various places that are entirely distracting. Why are we keeping these open/ can I delete them without my moderator status getting yanked.

As an addendum, how much power can I exercise without getting in trouble here? I'm in the mood to go all "I'm sheriff now, and Imma gonna clean up this one-horse town." Is the only limit basically until someone gets upset, or what? There ought also to be a way to flag things for deletion without actually deleting them, that way multiple people could review a decision before it was final.

Issue #2. Titles.

While it is good to be king (mod), I cannot help but sympathize with those still stuck as "peasants."

Give me some insight here; what does lowering the beginning title to "peasant" and removing all hope of advancement except through admin/mod selsction do for our new members? Except to demean and discourage them, fostering resentment and lack of willingness to participate?

Issue #4. Deleted Threads.

On a more personal note ladies and gentlemen, is there anyway to retrieve a deleted thread? I notice Atlantean Acquisitions is gone, and it was scheduled to get underway very shortly. Besides which, there are interesting sections of TTRopolis missing.

1: Could you cite specific examples of what you consider to be unnecessary threads? As for exercise of power, that almost doesn't matter considering that the only ones really posting are the staff anyhow, for the moment.

2: There is in fact hope for advancement, or will be in the near future. Ian and I are working on implementing a new system of titles, ranks etc. The Peasant title is for the most part a placeholder.

3: I defer the question to Ian.

4: I do not believe so. If you actually intended to start AA (if you did, I apologize for deletion), you will have to make another thread.

Issue #5 "I can't delete stuff here"

Issues No.2-4 have been resolved, but I can't remove them, nor edit Jeff's post to reflect that. I should like that power on my this thread at least.

Also, if Mod power could be expanded to just cover doing the same stuff all over the forum I think that would be great. I don't think anyone promoted to Mod would misuse that power.

Unfortunately, I seem to be the only one using the Note Board, but oh well.

Ian/Jeff, you should put the OOC's back in place. I know we weren't using them, but that's something we need to start doing eventually, so it would help if they would just stay in place until we start using them regularly, because we can't use them at all when they're not there...

In response to that, Trey, nobody ever used them and to be honest I have never actually seen them used on any other forum. Just post in brackets like everyone else to say things OOC.

Actually, nobody ever used them because we hadn't had time to get used to them yet. If you are adverse to the work of creating them again, give me administrative powers, and I can do it. Besides which, you know we decided to have OOC threads because posts were becoming absurdly long in each thread. That's why they are helpful; now we just need a way of figuring out when to use them, which would be a good rule.

Trey I do not give moderators power in their own area to make sure that no moderator just goes around deleting stuff. Issue 5 Is reasonable, but in order for future arguments the other issues must stay around so we can reference them when time comes.


Moderators:

You have power over the general areas like an admin, but here in the help desk, things can only be removed by Admins. This is in order to keep old questions around so us staff do not have to repeat ourselves. If there is a Problem in this area, inform myself or Mycrodeeth of the situation at hand.

Also, from this point on no one should call each other by our RL names. This is to help keep anonymity of the Forum, and so when more people come they don't know who we are.

Well then DW, if this is the place for FAQs and such, please move this thread elsewhere (do you see now why not being able to moderate this is a real pain for the both of us? I have to ask you to do everything, and you have to find the time to do it, one solution would just be to promote me to admin, but that's not really necessary so long as you're willing to help);

the idea here was to have a note board, where issues could be dealt with in a one-off manner; there is not supposed to be anything on here that would bear repeating; I assumed that if we reached a consensus on a rule change or anything important, that that could be posted elsewhere (say, maybe in the rules thread?) and the issue could be deleted;

Presumably the rules would be understandable, and you wouldn't have to see every little nuance of the administrators' decision making process to understand it. Not to mention that we are as human as everyone else, and get off topic frequently in our discussions.

In any case, I leave this all in your hands.

When is the guild of nerds meeting over the summer?

I have the feeling I should just come in person so we can discuss the thread face to face. As MD says, I have a passion for enforcing the rules, but I also have a vision for making them, and quite possibly more time to spare on working out details than either of you. Besides which, I miss you guys.

On Issue 7:

Yes I am wondering that as well. And I do think a face to face or at least a voice chat meeting should be held at least once a week for staff. This should be a time where we all can be online to do this. I know of 2 Free low latency chat systems that work on all OS. One is Raidcall, and it works pretty well and is simple to use. The other is Teamspeak, it is more complicated and to run a server you need $$$. I recommend raidcall, as a minimum you can have 50 people max chatting at a time and you can upgrade it to as far as 1000. But for our uses the 50 is perfect.

Both are used by gamers around the world and are highly credible on the MMORPG community.
